The refurbishment of two existing wards (one floor of a ward block) into the hospital’s post-transplant wards. The new facility has been designed in accordance with HBN 57 (critical care) and includes six high dependency bays, a “step-down” four-bedded bay and 28 other bed spaces, including eight single bedrooms with en-suite showers.
The design of the wards was developed in close liaison with the senior ward staff and the hospital’s estates department. The internal layout addresses the requirements for single sex accommodation, privacy-and-dignity and provision of private sanitary accommodation.
The project was completed in two phases in order to minimise the amount of ward down-time during the course of the work and was completed on programme.
