Ingleton Wood celebrates staff volunteering efforts Friday, 8th June 2018

To mark this year’s Volunteer’s Week we’re recognising the enormous contribution our employees make to their local communities. Here we speak to Jason Rivers, Associate Architect at our London office, who is a volunteer leader at his local Beaver Scouts Group.

How long have you volunteered in this role for? Nearly two years.

Why did you decide to start this role? After a new position opened for a new leader at my eldest son’s Beaver group, I decided to apply. I wanted to contribute to my local community by helping young children fulfil their potential and thought this was an excellent way to achieve that.

What do you enjoy about your role? I enjoy creating a fun and friendly environment where every child can experiment and develop through diverse activities from climbing, games and treasure hunts to the essentials of lighting camp fires. I really enjoy organising the annual camping trip which takes course over two days – the highlight of my summer for sure!

Do you have any advice for others wanting to volunteer? To anyone considering volunteering, just do it. As well as being extremely rewarding, volunteering gives you something else to do away from your normal routine. If you would like to get involved with your local Scouts group, just check out their website – there are always loads of vacancies available.
