As part of Volunteer’s Week we’re celebrating the great things that our staff do for their local communities. Antony Brown, Senior Mechanical Engineer at our Cambridge office, coaches U13’s football team, the Willingham Wolves.
How long have you volunteered in this role for? Three years
Why did you decide to start this role? Other than wanting to spend more time with my son, who plays on the team, I really relished the chance to help develop this fantastic team. I jumped at the opportunity once the previous coach left.
What do you enjoy about your role? It is so rewarding seeing my son and his friends interact and develop through sport, especially during a time when social media and other forms of interactive media take up such a large proportion of young people’s downtime. It is great seeing the boys enjoying themselves outside!
Do you have any advice for others wanting to volunteer? There really are plenty of ways you can volunteer and get involved with your local community through volunteering. I would advise people who are unsure to search around, there is something for everyone. Volunteering with sport can be time consuming but is also extremely gratifying, particularly when you see your hard work starting to pay off as the team grow and succeed.
