Ingleton Wood were appointed by Ipswich Borough Council to provide lead consultant, building surveying, building services, civil and structural engineering, project management, CDM Advisor and Party Wall surveyor services for a project to demolish the late 1960s Ipswich Police Station building located in the centre of Ipswich.
The site presented several challenges to the project team including separation of the police station from an adjoining occupied office building, proximity of the building to roads and existing services, adjacent residential buildings, asbestos materials and archaeological restrictions in relation to site excavations. The building was 6-storeys high including the basement level and incorporated many internal level changes.
The management approach for the works included a Principal Contractor undertaking enabling works, and the management of a demolition contractor. The project was delivered on budget and in line with the client’s programme.
Upon completion of the demolition project Ingleton Wood were subsequently appointed to provide full multi-disciplinary consultant services in relation to redevelopment of the cleared site into a surface level public car park. The works included re-grading of site levels, tarmac surfacing, hard and soft landscaping and car park lighting.
Ingleton Wood were instrumental in the full redevelopment of the site, successfully managing the removal of a dilapidated vacant property into a valuable revenue generating asset for the client.
