Subsequent to Bedfordshire’s change from a three tier to a two-tier education system, Sharnbrook Academy Federation commissioned Ingleton Wood to refurbish Harrold Middle School (an exhausted Victorian building) to provide a contemporary 1FE primary school, with accommodation and aesthetics to match the modern buildings of the Academy Trust.
The works comprised the removal of all secondary school function and a complete refurbishment including classrooms, the main entrance and reception, administration areas, specialist spaces and all other ancillary accommodation to provide a modern Primary facility.
As part of the ongoing maintenance of the site, the Academy had undertaken the replacement of the heating plant and distribution. These works were managed in part concurrently and co-ordinated with the building refurbishment.
The scheme also required a planning application to facilitate the change of a drama studio to a year 6 classroom.
