Ingleton Wood’s healthcare team were appointed as Architects and Contract Administrator for this exciting scheme to extend and refurbish the existing Macmillan Primrose Oncology Unit at Bedford Hospital. With an ever-increasing number of patients requiring treatment, there was a need to expand the existing facilities to incorporate new bed and seat spaces over and above the existing provision.
Our design incorporated a single storey extension to the treatment area and remodelling of the outside spaces including the garden of remembrance. The expansion in internal floor space allowed the refurbishment and reorganisation of the existing building to establish new bed and chair treatment bays in an open plan environment. So as to provide a welcoming and calm yet private environment, each treatment bay contained three treatment chairs. Our design also incorporated a new nurse base positioned centrally to allow vision around the whole building, new and refurbished WC’s and dirty & clean utility spaces.
This project was charity funded by donation and was opened by the Mayor of Bedford to much acclaim.
