Ingleton Wood and DEC in Partnership Wednesday, 1st March 2017

Ingleton Wood have been working with Class of your Own and their ‘Design Engineer Construct’ course for two years. Our first school was Clacton Coastal Academy, where we are now seeing the results of everyone’s hard work. Sam and John, both aged 16, have joined us 2 days a week whilst undertaking their DEC Level 3 (A-level) course and have become valued members of our Colchester team.

We have just launched our involvement with Kesgrave High School in Ipswich and their Year 9 DEC students, along with local contractors TJ Evers. On Friday 24th February we joined with the team from TJ Evers to give the students a taste of all aspects of construction. For two hours the students rotated around 7 activities, considering subjects as diverse as space planning for a new school to setting out steelwork on a mocked up site.

The students were fantastic to work with and this quote from Tom Corker, Teacher at Kesgrave High School says it all:

“We were delighted with the morning. Students were incredibly engaged and motivated on the day. The result has been impact on the students who were inspired and motivated in their learning this week. Students have spoken enthusiastically about the importance of measuring, relevance of Pythagoras, why we need to consider the position of the sun and much more. I really believe that this is the start of a great relationship and that we will all benefit from this. I do look forward to more opportunities to work together in the future.”

Our thanks go to Steve Ewers, Director at TJ Evers for planning the structure of the morning to enable its success.
