Northgate Hospital, Great Yarmouth

Northgate Hospital, Great Yarmouth

The Practice was instructed to prepare a Masterplan for the comprehensive residential led redevelopment of a 6.6ha site, part operational, part vacant, health facility, to the north of Great Yarmouth Town Centre.

The Architecture and Planning teams worked closely with the Local Planning Authority and other key stakeholders, notably Norfolk County Council Highways and the Environment Agency, to ensure compliance with strategic objectives and address any concerns at an early stage, thereby minimising the likelihood of delays post-submission of the planning application.

Given the strategic and sensitive nature of the site (a hospital in a residential area) a public consultation event, organised and coordinated by Ingleton Wood, was held to outline and reassure the public in relation to the impact of the proposals on the provision of healthcare facilities within the locality and residential properties.

An outline planning application was prepared for the development of the first phase of development detailed in a comprehensive site wide masterplan. The application sought the development of up to 79 residential units. To provide maximum flexibility and ensure the permission was attractive to a range of potential purchasers, the application sought to fix only means of access to the site.

The scheme was presented to the Council’s Planning Committee in where Council Members voted unanimously to approve the application.
