Ingleton Wood were appointed to design a new Community Centre for Billericay. The Centre would replace its 1960s predecessor, which was deteriorating.
Our brief from the Town Council was to design a modern facility occupying the same site, not only offering a great venue for meetings and performances as the old building, but expanding this to serviced meeting rooms, and providing a new home for the Town Council including a new Council Chamber.
Both the budget and confines of the site made the design complicated and the positioning of the new building on top of a hill between older and newer High Street buildings and residential houses made for a delicate balance.
Overall, the building is considered a success. Although large, accommodating the facilities required, considerate design allowed it to stand out as a new modern facility for Billericay whilst not overbearing or out of place.
