Property and construction consultancy Ingleton Wood played a key role in the transformation of the historic Chelmsford Theatre into a modern fit-for-purpose community venue.
Chelmsford Theatre reopened earlier this year after Ingleton Wood stepped in during the project towards the end of 2022 and provided architectural, project management and contract administration services.
The theatre dates back to the 1960s and hadn’t been upgraded for decades.
The project included modernising the theatre’s foyers, box office, bar areas and bathroom, resulting in a dramatic new décor scheme.
The refurbishment also created more space for audiences to mingle and provided extra areas for new small-scale events and activities to take place.
Sam Taylor, Director and Building Surveyor, said: “We have a proven track record of delivering high-quality restoration projects across the leisure and heritage sectors and worked tirelessly to help bring the historic Chelmsford Theatre into the 21st century.
“Working closely with Chelmsford City Council, we transformed the outdated front-of-house spaces into modern, spacious and welcoming areas to reinvigorate and future-proof the cherished venue, while creating additional spaces for local community events.
“Project timescales were very tight and required our dedicated expertise to ensure the project was completed on time and to full specification. We hope the theatre and local community continues to reap the benefits for generations to come.”
Owners Chelmsford City Council said the refurbishment cements Chelmsford Theatre’s position as a first-rate entertainment venue.
Chelmsford City Council said: “This makeover has absolutely transformed the theatre’s front-of-house spaces, presenting a stunning contemporary venue for Chelmsford. The investment elevates the theatre’s role in the community, ensuring its commercial viability for the years to come.”
