Property and construction consultancy Ingleton Wood is celebrating after two London-based projects were announced on national shortlists for the 2024 Civic Trust Awards: Oasis Academy Silvertown and Camden Roundhouse Works.
The Civic Trust Awards highlight projects that demonstrate excellence in architecture and design while being sustainable, accessible, and providing a positive contribution to the surrounding region and community.
During the construction of the Roundhouse Works, Ingleton Wood was appointed to provide BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) sustainability services, with the development achieving the highly sought-after BREEAM 'Excellent' accreditation, something that was highlighted in the project's successful award application.
The Practice also provided building design services including mechanical and electrical engineering for the new £8 million creative centre.
Roundhouse Works, near Camden Town, provides space and facilities to support those aged 18-30 to turn their creativity into a career. The sustainable building includes a large music studio, a triple-height studio for circus and performance, a dedicated podcast studio, and other multi-use spaces.
Wes Henderson, Director of Engineering at Ingleton Wood’s Colchester office, said: “We are helping to pioneer sustainable developments across the UK, and not only will generations of young people benefit from new skills and confidence in this amazing creative space, but they will do so in a building that has sustainability at its heart.
“To see this project receive the recognition it deserves at the Civil Trust Awards is a true testament to the fantastic work carried out by everyone involved.”
Oasis Academy Silvertown, in east London, provides a co-educational, all-inclusive secondary school for 600 students, incorporating outdoor social spaces and a full-sized sports pitch on the roof.
Ingleton Wood was appointed to provide structural and civil engineering support throughout the project, which also achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
Andrew Wright, Director and Structural Engineer at Ingleton Wood’s London office, said: “Oasis Academy Silvertown is a combination of when excellent design meets state-of-the-art facilities, resulting in a truly brilliant building. On top of that, the fact that the project has achieved such high sustainability accreditations further elevates the fantastic work completed during this project.
“Being able to support this development was a great honour for our team and the project’s success at the Civic Trust Awards is fantastic to see.”
Both projects have been announced as part of the 56 national and international ‘shortlisted winners’ at the 2024 Civil Trust Awards. The ‘level of success’ achieved by each project will be revealed at the ceremony on 22 March at The Concorde Conference Centre in Altrincham, near Manchester, where they will either receive an Award or be Highly Commended.
