For this year’s Birkett Long £50 Challenge, Colchester office took on a bike ride challenge stopping off at 12 of the Hospice shops throughout Colchester, Brightlingsea, Clacton, Dovercourt, Frinton, Halstead, Manningtree, Dedham and Tiptree. We were keen for all staff to be involved in the challenge and so offered 10-mile, 20-mile, 40-mile and 100-mile routes, with each staff member choosing a route that suited their capability and fitness level.
Sponsored by solicitors Birkett Long, the challenge involves businesses and community groups each receiving a £50 note to kick-start enterprising fundraising activities. All money raised by this challenge to go straight to the work of the Hospice.
We used the £50 to pay for refreshments and supplies for our cyclists, and each staff member was tasked with raising sponsorship from friends and family.
Unfortunately, we were forced to reschedule the event from the original date due to forecast flash floods in the area, the new date was much better, a sunny crisp Friday which was perfect for the bike challenge. The camaraderie between the teams is evident through the many photos that were taken throughout the day, a few of which are included below.
Although each team struggled at points with their challenge, we all completed our allocated route by spurring each other on. Upon returning back to the office staff were treated to beers and pizza whilst they began their recuperation!
We’re very pleased to announce we raised £1,817.50 for St Helena Hospice and were awarded a trophy for our efforts.
Many thanks to all those that supported and sponsored us!
