Transport planning

Our experienced Transport and Highways Consultants can help support your development through the planning process. Our staff have an excellent working relationship with local planning and highway authorities and have significant local and national experience of projects of all sizes and types, for both public and private sector clients.

Our transport planning team can provide support from the early due diligence and feasibility stages of a project, through to the Transport Assessment process and planning application stage. Our fully integrated Civil & Structural engineering team can also provide on and off-site infrastructure design services, as well as Flood Risk, drainage strategies and utility assessments (see here for more detail).  By having a multi-disciplinary consultancy offering, not just for engineering but planning and architectural services, this will offer the best chance of a development gaining permission (see here) for details of our other services).

We are able to assist with transport planning and policy issues, sustainable travel planning projects, traffic engineering, and planning appeals.  We can advise on the feasibility and practicality of development and accessibility options, providing innovative solutions where possible. Having expert engineering and transport planning advice at the concept stage of the scheme will assist in maximising opportunities and minimising constraints.

We have extensive experience in the following key areas, among others:

  • Scoping negotiations with planning and highway authorities
  • Preparation of Highway Notes, Transport Statements, and detailed Transport Assessments
  • Preparation of Interim, Framework, and Full Travel Plans
  • Input into and review of masterplanning of development layouts
  • Undertaking of Engineering Appraisals to support Local Plan representations, land purchase or strategic assessment of development opportunities
  • Highway engineering – including junction design, visibility splays, and vehicle tracking analysis
  • Junction capacity analysis including the use of ARCADY, PICADY, OSCADY and LinSig;
  • Traffic Calming schemes
  • Parking and public transport studies
  • Preparation of Traffic Management Plans, Construction Logistic Plans & Delivery and Servicing Plans
  • Input into Environmental Impact Assessments
  • Traffic and speed surveys
  • Walking and Cycling Audits
  • Provision of support at Public Exhibitions, Planning Committee meetings, Planning Appeals and Expert Witness services for legal cases.
