This project includes a new treatment facility constructed as an extension to the existing care centre which will be retained and reconfigured as the clinic.
Ingleton Wood Martindales was appointed at a time when a feasibility layout had been developed by the Estates Management team. We felt that the character of the site would suit a different built form and that the current design did not provide a sufficiently high quality environment.
The main treatment area is designed as a fan shape allowing views out while at the same time providing privacy by virtue of the space being elevated in relation to the surrounding ground level.
During the course of the design process the Macmillan Cancer Care charity joined forces with the hospital in terms of funding. Ingleton Wood Martindales has worked alongside the Macmillan Architects to successfully incorporate their own design ideas, standard furniture (e.g. display stands), signage etc.
A mixed-mode ventilation strategy has been employed which includes tempered air and temperature/humidity sensors linked to both low level and high level windows.
