Barley Mews, Great Shelford

Barley Mews, Great Shelford

Ingleton Wood were commissioned by Enterprise Residential Development Limited to provide Civil and Structural Engineering Services for a prestigious scheme on Station Road in Great Shelford.

The project involved demolition of Public house and construction of 7 town houses and 5 apartments along with partial basement carpark to the rear with raised gardens above. The project was located next to the Cambridge to London Liverpool Street railway which complicated the design as our development cut into the existing railway embankment.

The site was very close to the level crossing which is prone to heavy congestion therefore the construction material for the dwellings were carefully considered to have minimum disruption.

The construction materials for the main houses and apartments was timber frame panels as this provided the quickest solution on site, speeding up programme, as the units could be manufactured off-site and then assembled quickly. The raised rear garden built over the carparking was constructed using a reinforced flat slab supported on reinforced concrete walls and columns. Careful consideration was given to site levels to minimise the impact on the existing railway embankment and tie in with adjacent boundaries.
