Ingleton Wood were successful when approached by Brinkley Grove School to take part in a design competition for the provision of a new drama studio. The competition brief was to design a flexible space which would be connected to the existing school hall. In addition to this staff facilities were to be considered as they were insufficient. Our design and orientation of the building allowed a mezzanine floor to be constructed partially within the roof space of the existing school and hence gave us an opportunity to create an additional staff room with kitchen and W.C facilities. |
The building is of steel frame construction with cavity wall infill, the rendered external facade provides a contrast with the facing brickwork of the existing building. The roof is slated and supports five wind catchers, which provide all the ventilation requirements for the extension. The building was constructed during term time with close liaison between Ingleton Wood, the contractor and the senior management of the school. The project was completed in September 2007 on time and within the budgetary requirements. |
