Ingleton Wood were commissioned to complete an innovative assessment of climate change hazards pertinent to the current and future care of three Churches by The Churches Conservation Trust.
The project scope required our team to provide a comprehensive package of recommendations, incorporating further investigation, modelling, adaptation strategy and long-term maintenance planning.
Drawing together our extensive expertise in historic building conservation, building surveying, civil engineering and climate science, this was a unique project that set a precedent for how our clients consider the long-term implications of climate change for their buildings and operations.
The reports looked at the climate change hazards and future weather projections for the sites, reviewing potential risks and impact drivers. Modelling was carried out using Met Office Data to establish current and future weather trends and establish the most likely changes in that region. Multiple site visits and desk top reviews of the building were undertaken to assess current conditional and repair requirements, and to establish areas of potential vulnerability to historic and significant building fabric and fittings.
Applying climate change modelling to individual sites and assessing impacts and vulnerabilities is an emerging specialism, and Ingleton Wood are proud to be working alongside a range of specialists and academics to develop and establish emerging methodologies and best practice in this area.
The project was undertaken across two months and is the focus of further development for wider applications in retrofit and estate strategy.
Working with academic partners, Ingleton Wood continues to develop this sought-after service to provide bespoke support to a wide range of clients considering climate adaption and resilience projects.
