Ingleton Wood recently completed a fully encompassing Interior Design package for a £13.7m Dementia Intensive Care Unit (DICU) at the Julian Hospital in Norwich. The 36-bed unit serves as state-of-the-art accommodation whilst also acting as a clinical academy and centre of excellence for dementia care.
Throughout the design process close consultation with the client was sought to ensure that all elements of the proposed designs were suitable for the intended environment. The innovative design incorporates the latest research from Stirling University and focuses on what the dementia patients need for optimum wellbeing.
Considerable research into suitable materials and finishes was undertaken resulting in the development of design elements to provide residents with the most relaxing, stimulating and comfortable environmental possible.
Amongst these proposals were feature walls, tactile walls, light boxes and other feature display items known to stimulate the memory and basic recognition.
