Homerton College, Cambridge - Morley House

Homerton College, Cambridge - Morley House

This project includes a new postgraduate student residential block, a new grounds maintenance building (to replace a similar building removed to enable this development) and changes to the main college car park.

Homerton College had an urgent need for additional postgraduate student bedrooms both in order to provide better accommodation for students currently living on the campus and to provide campus-based accommodation for students currently living outside the college. The provision of new residential accommodation is the first element of a campus-wide Estates Strategy.

The new residential block includes 120 bedrooms formed in clusters of five, each with a shared kitchen; it also accommodates a new Middle Common Room with associated toilets and new team changing rooms for those using the sports field immediately to the south.

The new building was constructed using a concrete frame with Metsec infill panels. The bathrooms were supplied as modular pods which were installed as the frame was erected.
The planning requirement of 10% renewables was met by the provision of a CHP unit and photovoltaic panels.

Morley House was completed in September 2016 at a cost of £10.6m.
