Ingleton Wood were commissioned by the Brentwood Academy Trust to review a proposal to expand Larchwood Primary School by one form of entry. An initial feasibility report had been undertaken by Essex County Council and the Trust required clarification of the works that could be achieved for the agreed budget and to consider how best to use the monies available.
Their requirement was to have existing reception classrooms refurbished with a new toilet block extension, a new build four class and ancillary areas classroom block, extension and refurbishment of the front entrance, administration area and main hall. The number of elements to the project placed significant challenges to achieving best value for money with the available budget.
Following the initial assessment Ingleton Wood were commissioned to provide a multi-disciplinary service including all architectural, civil and structural, mechanical and electrical design, full tender and procurement delivery together with project management, contract administration, quantity surveying and CDM responsibilities.
The most cost effective way to deliver the project was to split the project into four phases, working around the school curriculum and Essex County Council’s tight delivery requirements. Using the most appropriate form of procurement and contract for each phase, which included traditional and design and build options, the project was delivered on time and within the budget.
