New Linear Accelerator, Southend Hospital

Ingleton Wood were appointed as lead consultant for the construction and fit-out on a new Linear Accelerator bunker at the hospital.

Our role was two-fold; our engineering team coordinated and fully designed the foundations and ground floor slab on the site, incorporating the bunker requirements, prior to construction of the bunker itself, undertaken by an American construction company.

For the construction and fit-out of the bunker itself, undertaken as a design and build contract with the specialist, our role reverted to that of Employer’s Agent and Technical Adviser for all disciplines, notably architecture, mechanical and electrical engineering.   Our extensive healthcare experience was brought to this scheme, leading the scheme through stakeholder workshops, we informed the design through the Employer’s Requirements and advised on healthcare standards throughout, as we advised both the NHS Trust and the Contractor to ensure a compliant design was delivered.
