National Apprenticeship Week 2022 Build the Future Tuesday, 8th February 2022

Why choose an apprenticeship?

The Value of apprenticeships for companies

The UK apprenticeship levy was originally introduced in 2017 with two main objectives: to improve the quantity and quality of apprenticeships available in the UK. The levy is paid by large employers with a pay bill of over £3million (contributing 0.5% of their total annual pay bill) and smaller employers, (those with a total annual pay bill of less than £3million)  paying just 5% of the cost of their apprenticeship training and the Government pays the rest.

Ingleton Wood are proud to have been involved in the scheme since 2018 and currently have 15-degree level apprentices across the Practice. Investing in our staff is a key component of our company strategy and part of the scheme’s appeal is that anyone can enrol on the scheme.  This has aided us in addressing the industry skills gap, with apprentices having access to the latest industry standards and technology, which in turn expands and upskills our workforce and gives us a competitive edge in the market.

The most recent statistics from the Apprenticeship.gov.uk website shows:

  • 86% of employers said apprenticeships helped them develop skills relevant to their organisation
  • 78% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve productivity
  • 74% of employers said apprenticeships helped them improve the quality of their product or service

Why choose an apprenticeship as an individual?

We asked our apprentices to share their views on the apprenticeship scheme, read their top responses below;

1) Earn whilst you learn

As an apprentice you get to work alongside experienced staff who will support you to develop job-specific skills whilst earning a competitive wage from the start of employment and apprentices have no student loan to repay.

2) Boost your career prospects

Apprenticeships support individuals with a clear career progression route. Since starting my apprenticeship, I have joined the professional body CIBSE with a student membership and have begun to plan my route to chartered membership once I have completed my degree…Getting day to day experience in the workplace has allowed me to better understand my professional development and plan out my career goals.
