Ingleton Wood is celebrating after winning ‘Energy Project of the Year – Retail, Commercial, Industrial’ at The Energy Awards 2023 on 12 October.
The annual awards celebrate the energy industry’s innovations and achievements in best practice, business excellence, customer service and industry collaboration.
Ingleton Wood was awarded the ‘Energy Project of the Year – Retail, Commercial, Industrial’ for the Practice’s work providing multi-disciplinary and sustainability services for Camden’s Roundhouse Works that supports young people into the creative industries.
Our Colchester office achieved the industry gold standard BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) ‘Excellent’ sustainability accreditation for the new Roundhouse Works facility.
Camden’s Roundhouse has equipped thousands of young people with the skills to succeed in the creative industries since opening in 2006, and with the further development of the new state-of-the-art facility within the site, its capacity has increased to support 15,000 per year.
Wes Henderson, Director of Engineering at Ingleton Wood, who oversaw the project, said: “Achieving the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ sustainability accreditation for the Roundhouse Works was vital throughout all stages of the development and we are thrilled to have received such prestigious recognition.
“Using sophisticated dynamic thermal modelling helped to ensure Roundhouse Works was low energy in operation and the building was created using eco-friendly materials rated either A or A+ under the Green Guide, meaning they have the lowest environmental impact.”
Judges from The Energy Awards commented on the project’s holistic design, robust certification methods, and best practice when assessing the Roundhouse Works project.
Roundhouse Works provides space and facilities to support 18–30-year-olds by providing them with the opportunity to turn their creativity into a career.
The sustainable building includes a large music studio, a triple-height studio for circus and performance, a dedicated podcast studio and other multi-use spaces.
