“Thank you so much for Jaden’s two weeks with you. He really enjoyed it and learnt lots, so he is happy.”
Those were the lovely words we received from the proud mother of Jaden, a secondary school student who thrived during a recent bespoke work placement at our London office.
In total, around 20 young people would have broadened their built environment horizons and gained invaluable careers advice and experience at our headquarters by the end of the year.
From fledgling Year 8 pupils to final year university students, all our offices are committed to providing fulfilling and practical work placements across our building surveying, architecture and structural engineering teams.
Hands-on activities include supporting site inspections, such as fire damage reinstatement work and building condition surveys, as well as introductions to our sustainability services and drone services, tutorials on AutoCAD, and exercises in design and model generation.
“The built environment needs forward-thinking young people from all walks of life to enter the profession with bold sustainable visions for the future – and Ingleton Wood is proud to be playing a vital part in supporting the next generation,” says London Partner Simon Gorst.
“Whether it’s an ambitious, hard-working, inspirational student like Jaden who is yet to decide on their career path or an undergraduate ready to join our sector, we find it incredibly rewarding to share our passions in person, taking young people out on site to show them first-hand our range of work and the type of role they can play in reshaping our landscapes.”
Jaden enjoyed a two-week work placement with us and undertook a variety of tasks including helping to design a new art block for a school which involved research, sketching and drawing, and planning activity.
Jaden visited project sites with our interior design team and created an impressive interior board, while he also enjoyed an introduction to our net zero and renewable energy work with our in-house sustainability team.
“Jaden gave us a thank you card and chocolates on his last day which was a lovely gesture,” said Esther Reid, London Office Manager. “He made a real impact across the whole office and he can look forward to a very bright and positive future, whatever he chooses to do.
“We look forward to continuing to work with local schools, colleges and universities, as well as the fantastic Tower Hamlets ‘The Switch’ programme, to take even more young people on student work placements with ourselves during 2024.”
