Property and construction consultancy Ingleton Wood is celebrating after two London-based projects were announced winners at the 2024 Civic Trust Awards: Camden Roundhouse Works and Oasis Academy Silvertown.
The Civic Trust Awards highlight projects that demonstrate excellence in architecture and design whilst being sustainable, accessible, and providing a positive contribution to the surrounding region and community.
Serving as a hub for talent development among 18–30-year-olds, Camden Roundhouse Works won the Special Award for Community Impact & Engagement. This award is presented to a scheme that has demonstrated how successful community engagement can help deliver the highest standards of design whilst meeting the needs of local people.
During the construction of the Roundhouse Works, Ingleton Wood was appointed to provide BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) sustainability services, with the development achieving the highly sought-after BREEAM 'Excellent' accreditation.
Commenting on the Roundhouse Works, the judges stated: “Roundhouse Works exemplifies the power of architecture and design to foster community engagement, support talent development, and address socio-economic challenges faced by young people. It stands as a beacon of creativity, inclusivity, and social impact in the heart of Camden.”
The Special Award for Community Impact & Engagement wasn’t the only silverware for the Roundhouse Works on the night with the project also winning National Project of the Year.
Roundhouse Works, near Camden Town, provides space and facilities to support those aged 18-30 to turn their creativity into a career. The sustainable building includes a large music studio, a triple-height studio for circus and performance, a dedicated podcast studio, and other multi-use spaces.
Wes Henderson, Director of Engineering at Ingleton Wood’s Colchester office, said: “We’re delighted to see the Roundhouse Works project gain the recognition it deserves at the Civic Trust Awards. The project not only provides an essential space to help young people develop and learn new skills in a creative space, but through achieving BREEAM Excellent certification, the building truly has sustainability at its heart.”
When discussing the recent award win, Marcus Davey, Chief Executive and Artistic Director at The Roundhouse Works said: “This is wonderful news. To have achieved what you all achieved is nothing short of miraculous. You not only delivered a stunning building powered by a purpose that literally changes lives, but you were great to work with and all these awards are truly deserved. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”

The Practice’s success didn’t stop there with Oasis Academy Silvertown, in east London, being Highly Commended on the night. The co-educational secondary school accommodates 600 students, incorporating outdoor social spaces and a full-sized sports pitch on the roof.
Commenting on the Oasis Academy Silverton, the judges stated: “Oasis Academy is an extremely civic and sculptural school building providing adaptable, well-designed, and flexible education space in the heart of Silvertown. It has the capacity to become an important centre for the local community.”
Ingleton Wood was appointed to provide structural and civil engineering support throughout the project, which also achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
Andrew Wright, Director and Structural Engineer at Ingleton Wood’s London office, said: “Oasis Academy Silvertown addresses the urgent need for secondary education facilities in a rapidly growing area. The state-of-the-art facilities achieved high sustainability accreditation which further elevates the fantastic work carried out. The fact the project was Highly Commended at the Civic Trust Awards is a great honour.”
