Ingleton Wood is proud to have supported Colchester Zoo, one of Essex’s most iconic and cherished attractions, as part of an exciting and meaningful new chapter in their history as they prepare to become a Charity, Colchester Zoological Society, in 2025.
Our Colchester-based Commercial Building Surveying Team was entrusted with conducting a comprehensive survey across several significant locations within the Zoo’s 60-acre site.
Our team carefully assessed a variety of structures, including the historic 13th Century All Saints Church, the Chimpanzee Lookout, the Sealions of Patagonia habitat, the renowned Elephant Kingdom, and Penguini’s Restaurant.
These surveys were undertaken to produce detailed schedules of condition, which are required as part of new lease agreements being finalised for the buildings and animal habitats, and are critical components as the Zoo progresses with its long-term vision.
One particularly interesting challenge our team encountered involved adjusting standard health and safety procedures. In an unusual – but highly necessary - departure from protocol, our surveyors were advised by the Animal Care Team to remove their high-visibility jackets when working near the Chimpanzee Lookout. This precaution was taken to prevent drawing undue attention from the chimpanzees, ensuring a safe and calm environment for both the animals and our team.
We are honoured to support Colchester Zoo, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023, and we eagerly anticipate the positive impact our involvement will have on the Zoo's future growth and conservation efforts for many years to come as they become a Charity, Colchester Zoological Society, in January 2025.
