Ingleton Wood Complete the Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo in Aid of Lymphoma Association Thursday, 11th June 2015

On Sunday 7th June, an intrepid Ingleton Wood team set out to ride the inaugural Cambridgeshire Gran Fondo – a closed road cycle race over 133km. The race was part personal challenge (and it was certainly that!) and part charity fundraising. Ingleton Wood have chosen the Lymphoma Association as their charity for 2015 and we are hoping to increase our fundraising total from a current total of just over £3,000 to over £5,000 by the end of the year.

Andrew Collett, Jacob Sismey, Chris Barker, Maria Johnson, Ed Godden, Jason Page and Laura Mansel-Thomas, plus various brothers and friends, headed for Peterborough for the race which started at midday, although the presence of 7000-odd other riders meant we didn’t cross the start line for another half an hour.

Once moving, the race was fairly flat, very fast, and with the ever-present wind that only those who have lived in the fens will appreciate.

The huge field of cyclists, though, meant you were rarely cycling alone and burying yourself within a group was usually the best respite. The countryside was lovely, weather perfect and the site of the wind turbines at Gravely warmed our sustainable hearts.

Avoiding accidents, punctures and injuries, the entire team finished with fantastic times, meaning even the slowest rider rode 83 miles at an average speed over 15 mph:
