The age of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) seems to have come to an end.
In light of the recent budget announced this week, the Government has announced that the PSDS will cease to provide funding for any new projects.
However, Ingleton Wood remains committed to supporting clients by identifying alternative routes to decarbonisation, exploring funding opportunities, and delivering long-term, tailored energy strategies.
Our initial takeaways from the Government’s latest budget and climate commitments;
- Currently, awarded projects will remain fully funded, but it appears the Government is considering alternative routes to incentivise public sector decarbonisation.
- The Government is still committed to net zero carbon, with the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero receiving the largest jumps in capital spending.
- Specific mentions have been made toward warm homes funding, which has doubled in funding in previous years, and will aim to support an upgrade to around one-fifth of the nation's housing stock by 2029.
- Alongside the budget, the Fiscal Risks and Sustainability report has been updated to highlight the importance climate change risks have on the country. The report also puts great emphasis on flooding and extreme heat as areas requiring particular attention. This comes as no surprise to Ingleton Wood's climate change and thermal modelling teams, who have been supporting clients with this work for years.
As a multidisciplinary practice, we are proud to continue our support of public sector clients during this uncertain time and to play our part in shaping a more sustainable built environment.
