Ingleton Wood reflects on the 2025 Strategic Defence Review Friday, 13th June 2025

The UK Government’s recent publication of the 2025 Strategic Defence Review (SDR) represents a decisive step forward in strengthening Britain’s national security.

The commitment to making the country “safer, secure at home, strong abroad” requires not only strategic vision, but also a defence estate that is resilient, secure, and sustainable. As the base from which the Armed Forces live, work, train, and operate (both in the UK and overseas), the estate is a vital national asset. However, it has long suffered from underfunding and insufficient integration into capability planning.

A deadline of February 2026 has been set for delivering an overarching Defence Infrastructure Recapitalisation Plan: a clear mandate from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to address longstanding issues and unlock the full potential of its estate.

With extensive expertise in delivering complex, secure, and operationally effective projects, Ingleton Wood welcomes this renewed focus on restoring and reinvigorating the UK’s Defence estate.

Modernising defence infrastructure through innovation and partnership

The SDR’s priorities, ranging from cyber resilience and intelligence to estate modernisation, require state-of-the-art facilities that are secure, adaptable, and sustainable.

It calls for increased funding, coupled with fundamentally different ways of working, including accelerated decision-making, standardised delivery frameworks, and a digitally enabled, commercially minded approach to estate management.

As a trusted partner to public sector organisations, and with a proven track record in managing sensitive defence projects, Ingleton Wood are ideally positioned to support this transition.

With our defence portfolio including the delivery of bespoke new builds, refurbishments, and sustainable upgrades that meet the highest standards of security and operational efficiency, our team provides a highly professional, digitally enabled approach to estate management.

Enabling defence goals through smart, strategic infrastructure

The MoD’s goals for the Recapitalisation Plan - to attract private-sector investment, modernise housing, generate income from estate assets, and maximise energy efficiency - mirror our own approach to creating lasting value across the built environment.

Ingleton Wood’s extensive work within the defence sector demonstrates our ability to take unique requirements and design the infrastructure to support the operational output, enhancing effectiveness through quality, innovation, and collaboration.

Our team’s expertise helps enable defence capabilities vital to national security, while also ensuring the integrity of the mission.

Ingleton Wood: delivering infrastructure for the defence sector

As the Strategic Defence Review sets out to shape the future of the armed forces through its recommendations, Ingleton Wood are ready to support the MoD and its partners in delivering infrastructure that keeps Britain safe and strong, both now and in the future.

From optimising estate performance to designing mission-critical infrastructure, our team brings the required expertise, technical strength, and agility to support the SDR’s vision.
