Ingleton Wood’s Oxford-based team is proud to have supported the transformation of Brunel’s Grade II-listed Carriage Works railway building in Swindon, into a vibrant, modern facility.
Now housing a cutting-edge sustainability research hub for the University of Bath’s partnership with the Innovation Centre for Applied Sustainable Technologies (iCAST), this project balances heritage conservation with contemporary innovation.
Ingleton Wood provided Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) expertise for this project, ensuring the architectural integrity of this iconic structure was carefully preserved while seamlessly integrating advanced systems to support the university's ambitious sustainability goals.
Key features of the conversion include the implementation of energy-efficient technologies and renewable systems, perfectly aligning with the hub's forward-thinking research objectives.
The project also highlights the importance of adaptive reuse where possible, showcasing how listed buildings can be thoughtfully repurposed to meet 21st-century demands while safeguarding their historic character.
This phase of the transformation is a testament to Ingleton Wood’s dedication to blending history with modern design, creating spaces that honour the past while embracing a sustainable future.
Phase 3a of the project has now begun on-site, so stay tuned for further updates as this transformative project continues to evolve!
