Ingleton Wood are proud to have played a key role in the successful refurbishment of Stanground Fire Station, Peterborough, delivering a series of enhancements designed to elevate the station’s functionality, efficiency, and sustainability.
Commissioned by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, and working closely with the contractor, Lindum Group, and M&E specialists, AP Freeman, Ingleton Wood’s Cambridge-based team Provided Mechanical and Electrical (M&E), building services, CDM, and planning expertise to this project.
Key project features include:
- Optimised internal spaces: The original Breathing Apparatus Room was thoughtfully repurposed and reconfigured into two dedicated office spaces. This redesign improves the station’s operational efficiency and provides the crew with a more functional workspace.
- Improved visual performance: Fresh external cladding was installed to the exterior of the building, giving the fire station a modern appearance while enhancing the building’s performance and longevity.
- Sustainable solutions: EV charging points were installed to reduce the site’s reliance on fossil fuels, aligning with sustainability goals and futureproofing the station’s infrastructure.
Overcoming challenges
One of the project’s primary challenges was addressing asbestos found in the ceiling panels during initial inspections conducted by Ingleton Wood.
Through careful planning and collaboration, Lindum Group coordinated the removal of asbestos with a licensed contractor, ensuring the safety of all involved and allowing work to continue without delays.
Collaborative delivery
By collaborating closely with stakeholders and contractors, Ingleton Wood played a pivotal role in delivering renovations that enhance the station’s capabilities and elevate the quality of service it can provide.
The comprehensive improvements, from spatial optimisations to sustainability upgrades, will enhance the station’s operational capabilities and provide a more efficient workflow.
This project represents Ingleton Wood’s commitment to delivering tailored, high-quality solutions that support the needs of essential services and the communities they serve.
