26 miles… Ascents totalling more than 7,000ft… 3 Peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, North Yorkshire… All within 12 hours... After considerable planning, preparation and training from our dedicated team, consisting of Bridget Shaw, Maria Johnson, Chris Brown, Alec Hunter, David James and Duncan Stewart during the months leading up to the challenge, the day finally arrived to take on this momentous challenge in aid of Lymphoma Association, our charity of the year. It was an early start for the team however, under clear skies the team headed off towards the first peak; Pen-y-ghent, with an elevation of 691m. Although at different paces and with some difficulties along the way the team reached the summit relatively unscathed. From the peak of Pen-y-ghent, the fine weather was still holding and the second peak of Whernside was visible in the distance. After a four-hour trek making their way across Peat Bogs, the struggle of which was compensated with the breath-taking views, the team began their steep 728m ascent, the highest of the three peaks. After a short break the team took off for the third and final challenge. At around 5pm with daylight diminishing, the team forged ahead towards the summit of Ingleborough, with an elevation of 723m. With energy levels depleting combined with the steep path and final climb which was arguably the most challenging. After successfully reaching the ‘finish line’ the team made their way back to camp for the final five miles. Many congratulations to the team and thank you to all that have shown support and donated to Lymphoma Association. We’re very close to our target of £5,000 so if you would like to make a donation, however small, please follow the link to our Just Giving page here, thank you.
