St Albans Library

St Albans Library

Ingleton Wood were appointed for the refurbishment of the existing library and provision of a new Creator Space. The library is a very well used facility by the public and located within an existing shopping centre.

All the existing finishes were replaced with new to provide a modern, light and interesting interior to enhance the library. Feature walls with digital wallpaper, circular acoustic wall panels and interesting carpet designs were incorporated into the interior.

The existing furniture was replaced with new throughout to a contemporary style to improve the space and provide a mixture of flexible seating/study spaces. The book shelving was replaced with lower units on castors, to maximise the views and to allow flexibility of the space.

The library suffered from acoustic issues and this was resolved by providing a new acoustic ceiling throughout. Feature circular acoustic wall panels were also added to the entrance and children’s area.

A creator space was created within the existing building, to be used for creative learning. The new room was linked to the main library through a new set of glazed entrance doors. New contemporary and flexible furniture was provided to ensure the space can accommodate the various uses.

The existing library shopfront was overhauled to provide a more welcoming entrance.

The lighting was replaced throughout to improve the lighting levels and feature pendant lights were provided to the children’s area.
