St Benedicts School, Sixth Form Building

St Benedicts School, Sixth Form Building

Ingleton Wood were appointed for M&E Services and Sustainability for two schemes, including this new build Sixth Form Centre at London’s leading co-educational Catholic Independent School. The building is comprised of three floors of teaching, study, social and office spaces.

The building uses a natural ventilation approach throughout, providing light and airy spaces that maximise ventilation, particularly in Summer, while automated controls ensure heat loss is minimised in winter.

The building includes:

  • Ground Floor Sixth Form Social Area
  • First Floor Sixth Form Work Area
  • Design and Technology teaching spaces
  • Art Teaching and Display Spaces on the Top floor with high quality, North facing natural light

The building meets the requirements of the London Borough of Ealing for 40% Carbon reduction over the Building Regulations Part L 2010 through increased fabric U values (50% better than Part L2B), efficient boilers and LED lamps throughout as well as PV panels on the roof.

An air tightness of 5ach @ 50Pa was stipulated to minimise heat loss. Maximising the exposed concrete structure and its inherent thermal mass in each classroom was a priority to maximise comfort levels in all rooms.
