St Thomas More

Ingleton Wood were approached by St Thomas More High School in Westcliff-on-Sea to assist in obtaining funding from Southend Borough Council for a new classroom block to allow expansion. Our brief was to design a classroom block and prepare a budget estimate on which the funding would be based.

Funding was secured and we were subsequently appointed as Employer’s Agent, Architecture, Structural Engineering, Building Services, Principal Designer and Quantity Surveying Cost Consultantcy to take the scheme from feasibility to completion. This involved preparing the design, managing the tendering process and contract administration.

The building accommodates classrooms, exam/multi-purpose room, offices, media suite, gymnasium/changing rooms, shop, toilets, stores, cleaners’ cupboards and a lift. The development also included the provision of new external tennis courts.

The building uses electrical heating and comfort cooling with mechanical and passive ventilation systems. The electrical power is supplemented by solar PV panels and all systems are control by a building management system.
