Ingleton Wood were appointed by SDC Construction Group for Architectural and Structural services from RIBA 4-7 for a refurbishment project to house a new Centre for Mathematics and Computational Genetics at the University of Cambridge.
Located in the heart of Cambridge City Centre at the University Downing Site, two areas within an existing 19th Century ‘building of local interest’ were identified for refurbishment.
Located on the first and second floors, the project required the removal of an existing concrete staircase and mezzanine platform, infilling of the stair void, reconfiguration of the internal space and creation of a new circulation link to the retained primary stair.
The completed accommodation provided 29 open-plan workstations, 5 offices and a new library, and was fitted out with bespoke hardwood bookcases, carrel’s and cupboards.
