Our Cambridge office has expanded its team with the appointment of Monty Todd as Associate Building Surveyor. Monty will be heading up the Cambridge building surveying team to accommodate increasing demand for surveying services and new project appointments.
Monty is a Chartered Surveyor with a Masters degree in Building Surveying who brings with him over six years of industry experience. In a Q&A, he tells us all about his background, his new role at Ingleton Wood, and the exciting sustainability trends in the industry.
Why did you decide to join Ingleton Wood?
Having worked by myself for a couple of years, I was looking for an opportunity to join a team. Ingleton Wood’s values matched my own and I liked that building surveyors work alongside other disciplines, providing the opportunity to learn and work together with colleagues rather than sub-consultants.
What does your role involve?
The role varies significantly from day to day. I cover everything from small defect surveys to large scale contract administration. The variety means about a 50/50 split between the office and being out on site. I’d say it’s a good balance of detail and technical skill, as well as interpersonal skills such as negotiation.
How have you found the role and team so far?
I am really enjoying being part of the company so far. The people in the office are all welcoming and friendly, and my line managers are very supportive. The Cambridge building surveying team has lots on at the moment so it has been great to dive right in with instructions and future planning.
What do you hope to achieve at Ingleton Wood?
Ingleton Wood are in a really strong position to provide cross discipline services with a single point of contact for clients so there is scope to be involved in some exciting projects from start to finish. I hope to add new clients to our existing client base and build relationships with them so that we can work together on an ongoing basis. It would be great to add to the building surveying team in the future as well.
What exciting trends are there in building surveying?
An obvious but exciting trend I’ve noticed is ever increasing interest from clients for energy efficient buildings and upgrades. With Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards changes, increasing gas and electricity costs, and a general desire to operate in a more sustainable way, there is definitely scope to help clients make a real impact (or reduced impact!) on their environment. I’m looking forward to working with the sustainability experts at Ingleton Wood.
Ingleton Wood is always looking for new staff to join our specialist teams. For a list of our current vacancies, please see our job opportunities page.
