Developing skills for life at Ingleton Wood | National Apprenticeship Week 2026 Monday, 9th February 2026

Ingleton Wood proudly celebrates the vital role apprentices play in shaping both our practice and the wider built environment.

Apprenticeships are not just a pathway into our business; they are central to how we invest in people, plan for the future, and strengthen the profession year after year. During National Apprenticeship Week, and its theme of ‘Skills for Life’, this commitment is especially clear as we continue to nurture talent, create meaningful opportunities, and equip the next generation with the tools they need to build successful, long-term careers.

David Cresswell, Managing Partner at Ingleton Wood, highlights the importance of investing in apprenticeships that support both individuals and the future of the industry:

“Having studied while working myself, I’ve seen first-hand the impact a strong programme can have. Now, in a leadership role at Ingleton Wood, I understand just how vital apprenticeships are to the long-term success of our practice and the wider industry. They bring fresh thinking, new energy, and diverse perspectives to our projects, while giving individuals the skills, confidence, and real-world experience they need to thrive.”

Creating opportunities

We offer hands-on experience across a broad range of disciplines, including architecture, engineering, project management, surveying, sustainability, and more.

Our apprentices work within diverse industry sectors, spanning education, healthcare, residential, commercial, defence, heritage, and Net Zero Carbon developments; gaining valuable, practical exposure to the varied challenges and opportunities of the built environment.

“Our apprenticeship programme is fundamental to our long-term vision for sustainable growth and innovation,” comments Senior Partner, Laura Mansel-Thomas. “By investing in apprentices and equipping them with the skills, experience, and mindset needed to deliver responsible, future-ready solutions, we are helping to shape a greener, more resilient built environment for the generations that follow.”

Supporting growth through mentorship

We recognise that apprenticeships are about more than technical training; they are the foundation of lifelong careers.

Our multidisciplinary teams foster a supportive and inclusive environment where apprentices are encouraged to develop technical capability alongside communication, confidence, and professional judgement.

Every apprentice benefits from personalised mentorship, regular check-ins, structured development plans, and access to industry events. An approach that ensures apprentices feel supported, challenged, and valued throughout their journey, while providing clear pathways for progression beyond completion of their apprenticeship.

Developing skills for life

Developing Skills for Life means going beyond qualifications. We place strong emphasis on collaboration, problem-solving, adaptability, and leadership; skills that are essential in an ever-evolving industry.

Whether contributing to complex, multidisciplinary projects or supporting the delivery of sustainable design solutions, our apprentices gain a well-rounded foundation that prepares them for long-term success.

From apprenticeships to career success

Many of our apprentices continue their professional journey with Ingleton Wood, progressing into permanent roles and developing long-term careers within the Practice, while others go on to build successful careers across the sector.

Their journeys demonstrate the impact of structured learning, real responsibility, and sustained investment in people, and continue to inspire future apprentices to aim high.

Investing in people to shape the future

“Our apprenticeship programme plays a vital role in Ingleton Wood’s social value commitment,” said Holly Sutherland, our Senior Social Responsibility Coordinator. “By investing in young talent, we’re helping to develop future industry leaders while contributing to stronger, more inclusive communities. Apprenticeships allow us to create meaningful, lasting impact; for individuals, our business, and society.”

This approach ensures our teams continue to grow with the skills, diversity, and expertise needed to meet the evolving demands of the built environment.

As we mark National Apprenticeship Week 2026, we reaffirm our commitment to apprenticeships as a pathway to rewarding, fulfilling careers, and as a key driver of a resilient and forward-looking industry.

If you’re passionate about shaping the built environment and eager to learn, we’d love to hear from you.
